Dr. Elizabeth Spannhake
Dr. Elizabeth Spannhake has been an Orthodontist in private practice for over 25 years with offices in Carroll County and Towson. Her practice includes both children and adult patients and utilizes the most advanced methods and technologies. As a professional committed to service to the community, Dr. Spannhake’s practice outreach includes participation in Toys for Tots, the Carroll County Food Bank and the sponsoring of numerous sports teams.
Dr. Spannhake earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Maryland at College Park and also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Tulane University. She attended the Louisiana State University Dental School receiving her DDS and the Dean’s Award for highest class achievement in clinical and didactic skills. Dr. Spannhake received her orthodontic specialty education at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She is board certified and a diplomat of the American College of Orthodontics.
Continuing her passion for education and remaining at the forefront of the field, Dr. Spannhake has served on the Dean's Faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and, for the last thirteen years, as an Associate Clinical Professor in the Orthodontic Department at the Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. Biweekly, she teaches orthodontic residents in the clinic and is the course director for two courses - Biomechanics and Clinical Biomechanics Application. At Temple, Dr. Spannhake also serves on research committees and as project director for a number of research studies. In the past year, she had the honor of being selected to represent the Temple School of Dentistry as a member of a delegation sent to teach at Beijing University.
Dr. Spannhake has been active in organized Dentistry serving as the president of the Carroll County Dental Society, the Maryland State Society of Orthodontists and the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists. She has also served on two councils for the American Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Spannhake is married to Dr. E. William Spannhake, professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. They have three grown sons. Dr. Spannhake and her family are avid skiers, enjoy traveling and are very big fans of the Orioles and Ravens.
Dr. Jinah Kang
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jinah Kang has joined Dr. Spannhake and the team here at Hunt Valley Orthodontics! Her knowledge and expertise in the application of state-of-the-art orthodontic techniques is exceptional and will complement very well the progressive strategies of orthodontic care delivered at Hunt Valley Orthodontics.
Dr. Kang attended the University of Maryland at College Park earning a Bachelor of Art degree in Sociology. She also attended graduate school at Rutgers University receiving a Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Kang continued her education at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine where she earned her Dental degree. She received her Orthodontic Specialty certificate with a concurrent Masters degree in Oral Biology at Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry. As an associate professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Temple University, Dr. Spannhake had the pleasure of participating in Dr. Kang’s training and the opportunity to assess first-hand the outstanding level of her clinical knowledge and skills. Dr. Spannhake and Dr. Kang are excited to continue working together as Dr. Kang integrates into the practice.
Born in Korea, Dr. Kang grew up in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area attending Thomas S. Wooten High School in Rockville. During her leisure times, she enjoys playing the piano and spending time with her nephew.
